WEST INDIES innings:

Kieron Pollard lost his wicket off the first delivery of the 31st over bowled by McLaren as he skied one towards third man where Steyn held on to a good catch. And guess what, just after that dismissal it once again began to pour heavily and now that we are ahead of the scheduled time of play, even though the par score is at level, South Africa seem to be through just because of that one wicket.

Marlon Samuels continued his carnage as he smashed Peterson for two boundaries and a six in the 21st over. His innings finally came to an end when after pulling Steyn for a boundary at deep midwicket, he tried to make some room for himself off a fuller length delivery that knocked his stumps. Pollard and Samuels added 58 runs for the fifth wicket, most of which came from Samuels’ bat. Skipper Dwayne Bravo is at the crease with Kieron Pollard. West Indies need 51 runs from the last six overs with six wickets in hand. Fifty runs came in the last five overs.

Darren Bravo was run-out in a dramatic fashion as he worked McLaren’s ball towards deep square leg where Amla dived and saved two runs and was quick enough to throw as Bravo didn’t want the third, Samuels did and Bravo had to sacrifice his wicket. Meanwhile Marlon Samuels went berserk in the 20th over bowled by McLaren where he spanked him for 16 runs off the last five balls. For further destruction, he has the company of Kieron Pollard who can hit sixes at will. Windies now require 102 runs from the last 11 overs.

Chris Morris dream run continued as he dismissed the dangerous Chris Gayle off a delivery that curled away from the left-hander after pitching as a result of which he hit it straight to point. Later in the innings, Smith was hit on the pads by a quicker delivery from Robin Peterson, it was given not out and the decision was reviewed which brought Smith’s slow innings to an end. The Windies added 38 runs in the last five overs.

Steyn got the first breakthrough for South Africa as Charles made some room for himself and mistimed the ball high in the air as it landed into the safe gloves of AB de Villiers. Devon Smith was promoted ahead of Samuels, Darren Bravo and Pollard. Smith and Gayle have added 26 runs so far. Gayle is taking his own sweet time to settle.

Windies have got off to a similar start as South Africa as the openers have added 23 runs for the first wicket. But their innings haven’t been flawless as Gayle was dropped by Steyn off a return catch while Duminy at square leg dropped Charles off Steyn’s bowling. Gayle has hit a some lusty blows and his wicket continues to remain the key.

Over 31 || Score 230/6
With significant contributions from all of their batsmen, South Africa have reached a formidable score - 230 at the end of 31 overs. Faf du Plessis and David Miller added 68 runs for the fifth wicket at quick pace before du Plessis was run-out by Dwayne Bravo off his own bowling. David Miller was the last wicket to fall as he hit one high and straight to Sammy at covers. South Africa added 64 runs in the last five overs and West Indies have a batting line-up which can chase this score. All they need to beware of is...Dale Steyn.

Darren Bravo took a blinder to dismiss AB as he pulled a short delivery from Rampaul and was caught at midwicket. Bravo jumped his time to perfection and pulled off the catch with one hand. Pollard would be proud of that effort from his team mate. It was a handy knock from the South African skipper who was timing the ball really well. 27 runs were scored in the last five overs.

South Africa lost two more wickets as first Ingram was dismissed by Pollard as the left-hander mistimed a shot towards deep midwicket and was caught by Dwayne Bravo. It was an excellent knock from Ingram who scored 73 runs from 63 balls and laid a solid foundation for his side. The third wicket to fall was of JP Duminy who mistimed a pull and edged it to the keeper. Faf du Plessis is the new batsman at the crease and AB is batting on 28. 37 runs came in the last five overs.

Marlon Sameuls struck off the first ball of his spell as he pitched a juicy half-volley which Amla worked towards short covers, and was taken by Gayle in his third attempt. Ingram has reached a half-century, he is batting on 68 and to give him company, there is AB de Villiers at the crease. 43 runs scored in the last five overs.

It has been an excellent start by South Africa as both Hashim Amla and Colin Ingram have added 59 runs for the first wicket. None of the Windies bowlers have managed to make an impact as they are still searching for their first breakthrough.

The Proteas openers have got off their side to a decent start by adding 28 runs in the first five overs. It is a rain curtained match and since Windies have a lot of depth in their batting order, South Africa would want to post a score of overs 200 runs.

The latest update is that the match has been curtailed to 31 overs and the covers are off!
TOSS: West Indies have won the toss and they have decided to bowl first.
The big news for the South African fans is that Dale Steyn is fit and will play the match. The match will finally begin after some persistent rain. The overs have been curtailed and now it’s a 36-over match.
