2013 ICC Champions Trophy: India vs Pakistan - As it happened...

====================================================================================

Brief Summary:

Despite all the rain interruptions, India were the better team today, as they have been right through this tournament. Once Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early in the innings, it was a match dominated by Indian bowlers who picked wickets at regular intervals. While chasing, the Indian openers got off to a decent start and Shikhar Dhawan once again proved that he is meant for the big stage. India will now enter the semis high on confidence while a forgettable series for Pakistan comes to an end.

INDIA Over:19.1 II Score: 102/2

And finally the game comes to an end as India defeat Pakistan by eight wickets on Duckworth-Lewis method. Karthik worked Mohammard Hafeez’s delivery towards fine leg and those were the winning runs. India dominated in all departments of the game and this has been yet another comprehensive victory from Team India.

Virat Kohli 22* (27b) Dinesh Karthik 11* (15b)

Shikhar Dhawan’s dream run continued as after slamming three international tons on the trot, he scored 48 runs before hitting a wide delivery from Wahab Riaz straight to third man. Dinesh Karthik is the new man in and India now need just 24 runs from seven overs with eight wickets in hand.

INDIA Over: II Score: 57/0

Play resumed and Pakistan are still searching for their first breakthrough. They are currently scoring at almost six runs per over and now need 100 runs from 27 overs. With ten wickets in hand, it should be cakewalk from here onwards.

====================================================================================

====================================================================================

INDIA Over: 8.1 II Score: 47/0

Indian openers continued to dominate as none of the Pakistani bowlers have managed to trouble either Dhawan or Sharma who are scoring runs at will. Saeed Ajmal was brought into the attack immediately after the power play and he bowled just one delivery and the match was once again interrupted because of rain.

====================================================================================

INDIA Over:5 II Score: 22/0

It was a careful start from the Indian openers as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have added 22 for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma survived a close lbw appeal after he was hit on the pads by Junaid Khan but the Hawk-eye showed that the ball pitched outside the leg-stump. Sharma scored consecutive boundaries off Irfan’s over, fifth of the innings to add some useful runs in the first five overs. The target has been revised and India will now chase 168 runs from 40 overs.

====================================================================================

PAKISTAN Over: 39.4 II Score: 165/10

And as expected Pakistan failed to play the 40 overs. Mohammad Irfan was the last batsman to be dismissed as he was run-out.

Earlier Rohit Sharma took a blinder to dismiss Saeed Ajmal off Ishant Sharma’s bowling diving to his front at short cover. Junaid Khan was run-out off the next ball as a result of a direct hit from Kohli. India need 166 runs in 40 overs to win the match!

Wahab Riaz is known to hit some lusty blows but it wasn’t his day as he was dismissed for a duck by Ashwin. The ball spun away from Riaz who gloved it and dragged it onto the stumps. Pakistan lose their seventh wicket. Saeed Ajmal comes to the crease to give company to Umar Amin. Pakistan are struggling to play their quota of 40 overs.

Wahab Riaz b Ashwin 0 (2b)

====================================================================================

PAKISTAN Over:33 II Score: 139/6

Asad Shafiq was the fifth batsman to be dismissed as he got a faint edge off Ishant Sharma, the umpire wasn’t convinced and Dhoni reviewed the decision which went in India’s favour. Umar Amin was the next batsman to come at the crease. Jadeja struck again, this time it was Shoaib Malik who was struck on the pads, this time Malik reviewed the decision, but it was plumb. Pakistan are wobbling here.

Ishant Sharma introduced into the attack. Kamran cuts his third delivery past point region for a boundary. Sharma's last is on the legs and Hafeez plays it fine for another boundary. The next from Kumar is a tight one as he concedes just a single. Off the fourth delivery of the 10th over, Hafeez walks across and clips that behind square leg region for a boundary. He picks a couple off the fifth and leaves the sixth safely for the keeper. Seven from it.
====================================================================================

Hafeez scored the first boundary of the match off the fifth delivery of Yadav's over with a beautiful cover drive. Off the first delivery of the next over, Kamran charged forward and pulled the short one from Kumar for a boundary. ====================================================================================

PAKISTAN Over: 2 II Score: 4/0

Nasir Jamshed and Kamran Akmal will open the innings for Pakistan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the new ball. Kumar gets a hint of swing as Pakistan open their account with a leg bye off the first delivery. Just three runs from the first over.
====================================================================================

TOSS: India have won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The fate of archrivals India and Pakistan have already been sealed but make no mistake when these two lock horns in an ICC Champions Trophy Group B encounter today at Edgbaston.

The result would only be of academic interest but it is unlikely to be just another dead rubber when traditional foes take on each other.

When the Champions Trophy tickets went online for sale in April this year, it took all of 30 minutes for the allocated tickets to be lapped up. The insatiable demand from Indian and Pakistani fans will mean Saturday’s game will be more than a dead rubber.
